Bret Harte Assistant Principals

Ms. Darbi Pannell - Assistant Principal of Student Services (Discipline and Activities)

Bret Harte Discipline

Bret Harte strives to maintain a healthy and safe environment. We recognize that all students have a right to learn without disruptions. All students should be aware of the district and school rules. These rules are available in the San Jose Unified School District Student/ Parent Information Handbook and The Bret Harte Bronco Handbook. These rules are given to each student at the start of their school year. Bret Harte teachers have their own classroom rules and behavior expectations in their classes. When students misbehave, they may be given a referral and be sent to our Responsibility Center. An administrator will assign a consequence. A home contact will be make by the Responsibility Coordinator or an administrator. Bret Harte in general has students that are exceptionally well behaved, but we know that middle school is a time of numerous changes in their life and they may make mistakes from time to time. We recommend parents allow their students to learn how to be responsible for their own conduct. At the same time, we encourage parents to contact their students' teacher first for any clarification of a discipline consequence. An administrator would be happy to clarify any additional concerns.

Activities

Bret Harte's activities program is run by the associated student body class officers and the leadership class. They plan and direct noontime activities, school fund raisers, Bronco Night dances, and campus beautification. They also help support sports and clubs on campus. We offer a variety of clubs depending on the availability of adult advisors.

Sports

Bret Harte has one of the largest sports program offered at a middle school, and it is supported through the efforts of our Booster Club and ASB. We offer cross country, softball, soccer, wrestling, basketball, volleyball , tennis, lacrosse and track. Some of these sports teams are a single combination team of 6th through 8th graders while others are grade specific. We are members of the Eastside sports league, San Jose Unified 8th grade basketball league, and the South Bay lacrosse league. We also have the opportunity to participate in the All Star Program.
